Our Fabrics

Founded in 2019, Canada Cousin was built on a simple belief: the world’s finest fabrics should not be reserved for the few. We choose natural fibres first — cashmere, wool, merino, yak, silk and cotton — and we keep our prices within reach, so top-tier quality is something every woman can enjoy.

Every piece in our collection starts with the fabric. Below is what we look for in each fibre, and how to care for it. The exact fibre composition of each piece is listed on its product page.

Cashmere

Cashmere is the softest of our fibres: light, warm, and silky against the skin. Our cashmere pieces — cardigans, coats, hoodies and wraps, including 100% cashmere styles — are chosen for a hand-feel that stays soft wear after wear. Cashmere insulates without weight, which is why it layers so well under a coat in winter and works on its own in milder weather.

Wool & Merino

Wool is the backbone of our tailored pieces: structured blazers, wrap coats and knitwear that hold their shape. Merino wool is the finer side of the family — it breathes, regulates temperature and stays comfortable across a long day. Selected pieces in the collection are crafted with Italian craftsmanship, a tradition of tailoring we admire and learn from.

Yak

Yak fibre is rare and remarkable: softer than sheep’s wool and exceptionally warm. You will find it in our collection as yak wool tailoring and 100% yak down knitwear — pieces made for the coldest months, with a quiet, matte finish that fits the old-money style we love.

Silk & Our Heritage Line

Silk brings fluidity and a natural sheen — in vests, and blended with cashmere for coats that drape rather than bulk. Alongside our core collection, we also carry a Chinese heritage line featuring 老缎 (old silk), an intangible cultural heritage silk craft. It is our way of keeping a living tradition in the modern wardrobe.

Cotton

For everyday pieces we use long-staple cotton, chosen for a smooth surface and a clean, crisp feel that washes well. It is the fibre behind our tees and relaxed layers — simple pieces, made properly.

Leather & Down

Leather and down play supporting roles in the collection: leather jackets and vests with a clean, minimal line, and down-filled warmth for deep winter. Each is chosen to pair back to the same wardrobe — neutral colours, quiet details, nothing loud.

Caring for Fine Fabrics

  • Cashmere and wool: fold rather than hang knits, air pieces out between wears, and de-pill gently. Hand wash cold or dry clean, following the care label on your piece.
  • Silk: dry clean is the safest choice, and keep silk out of prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Cotton: machine wash as the care label directs, and reshape while damp.
  • Leather: keep dry, wipe clean, and store away from heat.
  • When in doubt, the care label on your piece is the final word.

Good fabric gets better with proper care — and it is the reason our pieces are made to be worn season after season, not just once.
